Thai Amulets Dot Org is an organization devoted to the furtherance of determining through a scientific approach which Thai amulets are genuine and which are copies. The Thai amulet organization is the world's first social network designed to allow enthusiasts and scholars to communicate with others of similar interests. Possibly the oldest Thai amulets whose origins are traceable are the amulets from the Haripunchai period. Today this area is known as Lampoon province. Around 1,200 - 1,400 years ago there was a strong Mon/Burmese influence here and this area was its own distinct kingdom.

The first Thai amulets where made and blessed by devout monks and given to warriors and fighters to enhance and strengthen their ability to fight the enemies of Thailand. Many times the Thai amulets were worn as buttons or as talismans. This power then and today was acquired through a faith in the power of the Buddha and as protection against their enemies to be beaten, injured or killed in battle. Although the names of the kingdoms have changed and we have a host of new monks, the power and the belief in magical attributes of these Thai amulets remains very strong.
Many newer and various Thai amulets are known from the time of the Sukhothai kingdom starting around 700 years ago and of course then from that time on through the Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin periods until we arrive in our current time span.

For some of the oldest amulets there is often little knowledge from which temple (Now known as Wat's.) they are from or who the monk was who had blessed them. Sometimes the period the amulets are from is known only from the style, the craftsmanship or the relative age the amulet appears to be from.

Over the years Thailand has developed quite a few different types and styles of Thai Buddhist amulets, but it should be pointed out that there are probably around 15 major styles and types of amulets which are preferred by collectors and in which people have the strongest faith in their power to affect their lives.

Of course the very old amulets are now collectors items and there are many fakes in the marketplace and real amulets are very hard to find and very expensive.
